The San Michel International European Tour Junior Tennis Tournament was concluded on Saturday morning with the Finals of the Boys and Girls Singles as well as the respective Doubles.

For the local players, thanks to dedication to the game of Omar Sudzuka Malta's representative managed to secure a prestigious place in the semi finals losing to the eventual winner Max Hertl.

In the Girls events the local representatives failed to go beyond the first round. Better preparation is required if they are to challenge the well prepared girls from overseas.

The final of the Boys failed to reach any heights with Max Hertl imposing himself on his opponent with his all round game on the No 1 seed Lloyd Glasspool. Hertle's all court play using his height to good advantage at the net paid off ensuring this years' European Tour 14U title with a convincing 6-1; 6-1 win.

In the Girls event the young and talented Anna Maria Heil ran away with the first set 6-1 but the unseeded Russian girl Nadezda Sundareva rallied back nicely but just failed to level the sets losing the set and match 6-1; 7-6 (6)

In the doubles events the eventual winners were Janine Koleta/Anna Maria Heil while in the Boys Doubles event the title went to Nienhuysen Nicolas/Hertl Max who in the final beat De Meo Alberto/Kerner Marcus.

One hopes that now that these international tournaments have established themselves in the International Junior Tour circuits, an effort by the authorities concerned to encourage individuals to take up court officiating is most essential.

This year over 200 foreign Juniors were attracted to Tennis Club Kordin contributing to sports tourism with those accompanying them. One hopes that the Government Authorities will recognize the contribution being put in by these dedicated Clubs and will in future help them out financially to offset some of their expenses and help improve the already good relations existing with those supporting these international tournaments.
