As I am one of many who have the Maltese language at heart, I feel offended whenever I call the Telephone Enquiry Service and the operator answers my call in the English language.

The overwhelming majority of subscribers are Maltese and not all Maltese understand English. The authorities concerned are duty-bound to remedy this gross shortcoming by issuing an order that calls will only be answered in the English language if the caller is English.

Being a very small nation we should be very proud of having our own language and hats off to the Maltese government for striving and successfully managing to have the Maltese language as one of the official languages in the EU. So it is very absurd that Maltese nationals answer a call in the English language.
