Lady Diana

Malta Independent Friday, 31 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

Today we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the departure of Lady Diana from this world to an eternal life.

When the princess died I was on a visit to Lourdes, and when I was walking the streets of Lourdes I saw a poor man standing still on the pavement, with a photo of Lady Diana and a candle near the photo.

Surely this woman taught us a big lesson. She was a princess but she was not ashamed to mix with poor people, and with those in need. She, as Jesus said and did, taught us what it means when you are occupying a high rank in society – this means that you have to be the servant for others.

I am sure that God has paid her well for her generosity towards those who suffer. “I was sick and you came to visit me,” Jesus said, and Lady Diana transformed these words into action.

Mother Teresa admired her for her work towards such needy people, and she wished to go to her funeral, but due to lack of strength she was unable to make the trip. In fact, Mother Teresa died a week later on 5 September 1997.

Princess Lady Diana taught us a good lesson. If we want to meet Jesus in our life, one of the conditions is to be a servant to others.

Jesus is going to say to us: “Those things that you have done to the least of my brethren you have done them to me; enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
