Senior vice-president of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise Norman Aquilina has been appointed a member of the Business Chamber of the European Union’s Enterprise Policy Group (EPG).

The EPG Business Chamber is comprised of distinguished people from private enterprise. Its members are selected according to a set of criteria, including recent business achievements in a senior management function within a private company, the capacity to consider issues concerning the competitiveness of companies at a European or international level, experience with the work of business associations or similar bodies and a good understanding of the particular needs of small and medium-sized enterprises along with the role of policy instruments in helping foster innovation in the private

sector.

The EPG was set up by the European Commission as a consultative committee and brings together substantial expertise from a broad range of business sectors across the European Union.

Its members are appointed in a personal capacity and are expected to contribute their own views, based on their own professional experience.

The decision to appoint Mr Aquilina was taken late last month and officially communicated by the Commission’s vice-president and Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry Gunther Verheugen.

At the inaugural meeting of the new Business Chamber, which is scheduled to take place later this year, Mr Aquilina will be meeting his new counterparts, together with Commissioner Verheugen, to discuss issues of mutual interest to the business community across the European Union.
