Three local dancers, all hailing from the College Of Jazz Dance, are currently preparing to leave Malta to further their dance training at the Cambridge Performing Arts in England.

Karl Tabone, 23, from Floriana, 18-year-old Elaine Falzon from Senglea and Warren Bonello, also 18, from San Gwann, have been awarded a three-year scholarship by their school. All three dancers had to audition in both singing and acting as well as dance. Karl and Elaine are also members of the YADA DANCE COMPANY, which is the resident dance company of the College of Jazz Dance. They have performed in various college and Yada productions, both locally and abroad. Warren Bonello is a recent addition to the college, following his success in the second series of the TV programme L-Isfida. Elaine and Karl had also participated in L-Isfida.

This is not the first time that College of Jazz Dance students have been awarded scholarships abroad. Last year Maxine Calleya obtained a three year scholarship to the London Studio Centre. Currently on holiday in Malta, Maxine is looking forward to starting the second year of her diploma course.

In addition, Andrea Galea has just returned from her one year scholarship at the Kate Simmons School, after being nominated by a foreign examiner of the ISTD in

the UK.

For college directors Felix Busuttil and Justin Roy Barker, this is a great satisfaction as well as an important achievement for the school, which they set up 18 years ago.

They are both firm believers in the importance of

performing abroad and hope-fully the Cambridge Performing Arts will act as a catalyst for these dancers to initiate their careers abroad.

The College Of Jazz Dance is currently accepting registrations for the new scholastic year which starts on 24 September.
