UHM president Gaetano Tanti, and secretary-general Gejtu Vella spoke yesterday about the summer festival the UHM is holding at Ta’ Fra Ben in Qawra today and tomorrow.

Mr Tanti said there would be a discussion programme today and tomorrow at 7pm related to issues on the euro and the EU, when information on these two topics would be provided, even in stands at the venue. At night there will be entertainment on the main stage.

At 8pm today there will be a children’s entertainment evening, with a variety of dance groups, singers and animators performing on the main stage, followed by a Back to the Oldies live music show from the 60s, with performers such as the Mark Spiteri Lucas band and singers Klinsman Coleiro, Antonella Persiano, J. Anvil, and Nadine Axisa. The cabaret group Battista Leisure Group and funny man Augusto Cardinali will also be entertaining the crowd. The show today will be hosted by John Muscat.

Tomorrow’s show will start at the same time and will be presented by Hector Bruno. There will be another children’s programme followed by a live music show from the 80s and the 90s on the main stage. Performers tomorrow will include the Paul Abela band, singers Georgina, Clifford Galea, Roger Tirazona, and Tristan B, the Cabaret group William Dance Company, the comedian Joe Demicoli, and singer Olivia Lewis who will close the show.

There is also a car show, food and drinks stands and a children’s play area which will be free of charge.

Mr Vella said these activities help to bring the trade union closer to its members and their families away from the working environment. A special focus will be on the development of the country as part of the EU and the efforts made by the UHM to bring the EU closer to the workers.

He also emphasised the importance of tourism and stressed the importance of a value for money service to tourists.
