The Annual Youth Football Association seminar which was sponsored by Gatorade was convened at St Aloysius College last Saturday where the draws for the Under 14 and Under 16 leagues for season 2007/2008 were made and also the draws for the Under 16 knock-out competition.
For the first time this season the Under 14 Section C will consist of Section C1, C2 and C3. Seven teams will compete in every section which will be played over two rounds.
A new three-year sponsorship agreement was signed by APS Bank senior marketing manager, Alfred Triganza and Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, Youth Football Association chairman.
Leagues format
Under 14 Section A
This section will be played over two rounds and the teams taking part are Floriana, Valletta, Paola H, Melita, Birkirkara, Pieta’ H, Sliema, Rabat D, San Gwann, Hamrun S, Mellieha and Naxxar.
The winner of this section will be declared champion for APS Bank League for season 2007/2008 while the teams who finish in the last three positions will be relegated to Section B.
Under 14 Section B
This section will also be played over two rounds and the teams competing are Mgarr Utd, Tarxien R, Kirkop, Birzebbuga, Balzan Y, Mosta, Msida, Pembroke Ath, Zebbug R, Qormi, Luxol and St Patrick.
The winner of this section will be declared Section B winner for season 2007/2008 and together with the second and third-placed teams will be promoted to Section A while the teams finishing in the last four positions will be relegated to Section C.
Under 14 Section C1
Seven teams will comprise this section which will be played over two rounds and the teams taking part are Luqa, Sirens, Kalkara, Gudja, Gzira, Lija-Iklin and Siggiewi.
The winner of this section will be declared Section C1 winner for season 2007/2008 and will be promoted to Section B.
Under 14 Section C2
This section will also comprise seven teams who will compete over two rounds and the teams taking part are Dingli, Marsa, Xghajra, Senglea, Zurrieq, Mqabba and St George’s.
The winner of this section will be declared Section C2 winner for season 2007/2008 and will be promoted to Section B.
Under 14 Section C3
Seven teams will compete in this section which will be played over two rounds and teams taking part are Attard, St Venera, Ghaxaq, Fgura, St Lucia, Marsaxlokk and Gozo.
The winner of this section will be declared Section C3 winner for season 2007/2008 and will be promoted to Section B.
Under 16 Section A
Mosta, Luxol, San Gwann, Sliema W, Valletta, Melita, Birkirkara, Pieta’ H, Paola H, Sirens, Hamrun and Floriana will compete over two rounds in this section.
The winner of this section will be declared as champion of APS Bank League for season 2007/200 and the teams finishing in the last three positions will be relegated to Section B.
Under 16 Section B
Twelve teams will compete in this section over two rounds who are Balzan Y, Tarxien R, Marsaxlokk, Naxxar, Kirkop, Mellieha, Qormi, Rabat D, St Patrick, Msida, St Venera and Zebbug R.
The winner of this section will be declared as Section B winner for season 2007/2008 and together with the second and third-placed teams will be promoted to Section A, while the teams finishing in the last three positions will be relegated to Section C.
Under 16 Section C
This section will be played over one round as 19 teams will take part, who are Attard, Birzebbuga, Dingli S, Ghaxaq, Gudja, Gzira, Lija-Iklin, Marsa, Mqabba, Pembroke, Senglea, Siggiewi, Kalkara, Mgarr, St George’s, Zejtun, Xghajra, Fgura and Zurrieq.
The winner of this section will be declared Section C winners and together with the second and third-placed teams will be promoted to Section B.
The season kicks off on Saturday 8 September and matches will be played at St Aloysius , Luxol Melita and San Gwann Grounds.
