Pope Benedict XVI has nominated Archbishop Tommaso Caputo as Apostolic Nuncio for Malta.
Mgr. Caputo was born at Afragola (Naples, Italy) on 17 October 1950 and was ordained on 10 April 1974.
On graduating with a doctorate in Canon Law, in 1980 he joined the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See and has served in the Papal Missions in Rwanda, the Philippines and Venezuela, and in the Department of General Affairs in the Secretariat of State.
Mgr Caputo has been Head of Protocol in the Secretariat of State since 19 June 1993. He is fluent in Spanish, English and French.
Mgr Caputo will receive his Episcopal consecration from the Pope on 29 September in St Peter’s Basilica.
