Talks On nursing aides continue

Malta Independent Tuesday, 4 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin yesterday reported substantial progress in talks with the government about nursing aides and care workers in the Department of Health over which the union last month ordered industrial action.

Talks have since been held with the health director general, officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and the Finance Ministry, the human resources director, and the health department manager in which progress was registered.

The union said care workers will start receiving the allowance due to them and agreement was reached in principle on the union’s claim that nursing aides, health assistants and care workers would be able to progress in their career by being sponsored to undertake courses in the work they did.

Agreement was also reached in principle on a roster issue.
