Table-Football: Matthew Pace Wins Under 12 World Cup

Matthew Pace a Hamrun Table Football Club player, succeeded in winning the World Cup in the Under 12 Category by beating the Belgian. Mitchell Timmers,

4-1 in the final.

The event was held in Les Herbier in France.

In the Under 19 Mauro Camilleri lost in the quarter final against the Belgian Justin Leroy, who is ranked No. 4 in the world in this category (1-0).

In the Open Massimo Cremona, presently occupying the No. 3 position in the world rankings also lost in the quarter final against the Italian Efrem Intra (0-1) who occupies the No. 13 position.

This was a repetition of last year’s World Cup final where Massimo also had lost on shots to Efrem.

The other two Maltese competitors, Derek Conti (the local champion) and Samuel Bartolo were both ousted out from the competition in the last 16.

Derek Conti lost 2-1 against the British Kasper Bennett who occupies the No.8 ranking and Samuel Bartolo lost 3-2 against the Italian Daniele Bertelli who occupies the No. 7 position. The latter eventually won the World Cup beating Britain’s Kasper Bennett (1-0) in the final.

Meanwhile the Maltese team will be playing tomorrow in the Nations World Cup. The team consists of Derek Conti, Massimo Cremona, Samuel Bartolo, Mark Gauci and Stefan Pace.
