Malta Independent Wednesday, 5 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

The annual exhibition by the Association of Model Engineers is to be held between Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September (both days inclusive), at the premises of The Scout Association of Malta, Island Headquarters, Pjazza Emanuel S. Tonna, Floriana.

The Association of Model Engineers’ membership exceeds 95 model enthusiasts. This year’s Exhibition features over 90 new scale models including aircraft, figures, marine, cars, motor cycles, trains, military, trucks, radio control models, dioramas, the engineering section with fully working scale models, as well as a fantasy, space and fiction section, as well as the very popular war-gaming section.

Of particular interest should be the collection of highly detailed figures of The Lord of the Rings that are displayed separately during the exhibition. Last year’s main centre-piece was a diorama of a Rohan being attacked by orcs. This year, the AME has taken a step further into realising this full three feet by two feet diorama of the Battle of Helm’s Deep.

The focus of this year’s exhibition is to try and recruit more young members to the Association, which will help foster further understanding in the exciting and wonderful hobby of Engineering Modeling in young minds.

A number of guests from the United Kingdom shall be purposely in Malta to attend the Annual Exhibition.

During the said exhibition, a competition will be held for the Association’s members. Spread amongst the diverse sections, entries submitted will be judged according the finishing and presentation level of the model under consideration, and awarded a rating accordingly. Prizes for Best in Class and Best in Show shall also be awarded. The judging is held in accordance with international practices one finds applied in world renown model shows and competitions.

The general public is invited to visit this annual exhibition that brings together the best modelers on our islands. Attendance is free of charge.

This exhibition is being sponsored by Bank of Valletta plc.
