Malta Independent Thursday, 6 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Sixteen lucky winners who participated in the GreenDot competition were presented attractive prizes by GreenPak earlier this month. The GreenDot competition, which ran for six weeks, formed part of GreenPak’s campaign aimed to create awareness on the significance of the GreenDot mark. The prizes given out by the sponsors and GreenPak included Fuji digital cameras, Canon photo printers and Body Shop body care products.

The competition was promoted in the information leaflet entitled Din il-marka xi tfisser?, explaining the meaning of the GreenDot, the benefits of purchasing such marked products and how it helps in the recycling of packaging. Din il-marka xi tfisser? also provides information on GreenPak’s Scheme and the GreenPak Kids Club. Distributed to thousands of consumers at supermarkets as part of the educational campaign run by GreenPak, the competition was popularly received.

Operating on weekends, and from leading supermarkets across Malta, shoppers were informed how GreenDot-marked products help reduce waste going to landfill. GreenPak representatives also gave information to the consumers on how one could contribute to the recycling of packaging. Free products supported by Kinder Bueno, Huggies, Bankok, Colgate and Belcando pet food were also given out to interested shoppers.

Consumers were very keen to know more about recycling and some acknowledged that with a little effort on their part, they could support the environment. A 35-year-old lady commented: “Now that I found a simple way how to help recycling, I will certainly look for and purchase products with the GreenDot when I go shopping.”

GreenGary – GreenPak’s mascot – was the main attraction for the young ones during the campaign. Wherever he went, GreenGary was surrounded by children who were enthusiastic to take photos with him.

The GreenPak competition question was related to the mascot. The public was asked the name of GreenPak’s mascot via SMS.

GreenPak is an authorised compliance scheme set up to help companies collect and recycle packaging as required by the EU packaging regulations.
