Malta Independent Friday, 7 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The Labour Party has had two days of talks with representatives of Floriana – the local council and voluntary bodies of the town – to discuss its regional development plan for the Grand Harbour.

Mayor Nigel Holland, the MLP said, welcomed the party’s intentions for the Grand Harbour, which would result in greater economic activity. Councillors said Floriana should remain residential, and urged more facilities for young people.

At the meeting with voluntary bodies those present spoke about the old buildings in Floriana and the need to utilise them. As councillors had done, they also referred to Floriana’s ageing population and said that young people and young couples should be encouraged to live in Floriana.

Acting MLP leader Charles Mangion said the plan did not only address economic development; it also dealt with social development and through its plan the MLP wanted to regenerate the port area.
