Heritage Malta is extending the exhibition of sculptures by Antonio Sciortino. The exhibition is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Gozo at the Exhibition Hall in St Francis Square Victoria Gozo on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of Sciortino’s death.

Sciortino was born in Zebbug in 1879. After studying in Malta he continued with his studies in Rome where he was appointed a director in the Accademia Britannica. From 1937 until his death he was curator of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta.

He developed an original style which drew the admiration of many and brought him commissions in Russia, Brazil and USA. In 1903 he created his finest masterpiece, Les Gavroches, a copy of which is in the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta.

The exhibition will run until 16 September between 8am and 4.30pm. Saturdays from 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm and Sundays from 9am to 12pm.
