I would like to complain about the filth in Bakery Street, Qala. Rubbish like broken pots, wires, bottles, pails and TV antennas are dumped on the street and lies there for days. This really isn’t what one expects of an EU country! This trash will just soon end up in the adjacent fields; but in my opinion sweeping the trash under the carpet is the sign of a dirty home and double standards!

It is a shame that many locals have the absurd idea that they are not responsible for the cleanliness beyond their bankina (pavement). They also dump their trash in privately owned fields turning them into breeding grounds for vermin and disease, besides the stench it generates!

And all this will end up in their homes again, especially on certain windy days. How can people be so ignorant as to insist on spotless homes and yet are ready to turn their neighbourhoods, their very streets, into trash-bins!
