Young people met and discussed with the Prime Minister at the Valletta Waterfront in an activity organised by the Nationalist Party to mark the coming Independence anniversary. The two Nationalist MEPs, David Casa and Simon Busuttil were present.

Those present expressed appreciation for the musical and cultural activities that have been held during the summer and the Prime Minister promised that these activities would continue.

The Nationalist Party said a number of young people also expressed satisfaction at the investment being attracted, especially in information technology and urged the Prime Minister to help more students join these sectors by adding to fiscal incentives. Dr Gonzi said the government was again allocating Lm200,000 for more young Maltese to specialise in sectors abroad.

Many of those present urged the government to introduce more initiatives and incentives such as flexible work hours to make it possible for young mothers to continue with their careers.

They also mentioned the price of property and the need for government assistance to young couples buying their first home.

Dr Gonzi said there already were incentives and aid but the government would try to help more young people through fiscal incentives which would ease the financial burden.

But every decision would aim to put more money into the pockets of young people, not of speculators, as the Labour Party wanted with its proposals.
