Malta has again been invited to take in the Grand Prix Sicilia, an international tournament always held in the Sicilian capital Palermo.
In past editions, Maltese wrestlers registered a good number of positive results, both as individuals and as a team, notwithstanding strong opposition coming from Romanian, Italian, Hungarian and Polish opponents.
The Maltese contingent will be made up of three officials and nine wrestlers. The tournament is scheduled to be held next Saturday.
The Maltese wrestlers have under gone very hard training for this event. They are under the direction of national coach Jesmond Giordimaina. The team includes both those with international experience and others who will be making their début abroad.
The Maltese contingent will be led by the federation’s assistant secretary general Manuel Cilia while the other two officials being national coach Jesmond Giordimaina and international referee Pawlu Farrugia.
Seasoned wrestler Abraham Vassallo will be the team captain with the rest are Adam Vella, Aidan Buhagiar, Andrea Saliba, David Zammit, Matthew Bonnici, Jonathan Gatt, Duncan Farrugia and young Garry Giordimaina. Participation will be in the senior, cadet and schoolboy divisions.
