Alex Delia, Head Coach at Premier School of Football, has just returned from the UK after attending the first sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Football (Uefa B Award) Course organised by the English FA coaching arm, FA Learning.

The course, which took place at Keele University, was spread over a period of eight days and consisted of theoretical and practical sessions on the various aspects of the game.

Course Director Graham Keeley and coach educators Darran Bowles and Peter Trevivian conducted the sessions. Aston Villa and FA physiotherapist Andy Rose treated the medical aspect of the course.

All coaches participating in the course, 22 in all, were required to prepare and conduct two training sessions of 25 minutes each as part of their course assessment on topics specifically selected by their respective coach educator.

Alex Delia’s two sessions were a functional session on coaching the two central defenders to defend effectively and a phase of play on combination play in the attacking third.

This course provided Delia with the opportunity to experience coaching tuition at the highest level in one of the best football associations abroad.

On the course’s penultimate day, a BBC radio journalist sent to Keele to prepare a radio feature on the FA coaching systems and tuition courses, also interviewed Alex.

Apart from running the Premier School of Football, which at the moment is accepting applications for the new season from youngsters wanting to join the school, Delia is also U/19 coach and senior team assistant coach to Michael Degiorgio at Naxxar Lions FC.
