Viva Malta! Viva Malta! Hey! Hey!

Last Saturday was an amazing experience; one we will surely cherish all our lives.

The South End Core, who organised the support at the South End of the Ta’ Qali Stadium, is sure that all those at Ta` Qali had the time of their lives and will definitely turn up in their numbers against Norway and especially Moldova now that the latter have reached us in the points tally.

South End Core’s main target was organised support with a difference. Our Maltese mentality is to support when our team is only on the winning side but we made it a point that we will try and nullify our opponent’s chants even when they in turn scored against us and to some extent we did this.

Our thanks go to our Knights and Grandmaster Fitzel who gave their all! South End Core has also thanked all those who contributed – sponsors, helpers and especially the fans who lost their voice chanting. With their backing this will not stop here and we foresee a continuous improvement in our collective support as well. Each and every person’s support contributed towards the result which, with some more luck, could have been a win.

We had all sorts of feedback and one which was recurring was how people really enjoyed themselves supporting their country with their heart and soul even though the south stand is not the ideal place to watch a match.

Some other comments were made regarding the choruses, where we tried to vary as much as possible. Whilst some still have to be learnt by the supporters, these can now be downloaded from www. southendcore.com which has been recently set up and is still work in progress.

Special thanks go to a lot of MFA people especially Ivan Vella and Victor Mifsud who put in a lot of effort in their work.

Various entities helped in supporting this initiative, mainly Teamsport, Melitacable, Carlsberg, Ryan’s Irish Pub, Rookies, WKD, Zmerc Pub, MUSC, Kavallieri Rugby team, San Antonio Fitness Club, Extra Time, KSU and members of Birkirkara Ultras, Paola Boys Hibs Ultras and the Valletta White Warriors. Thanks to their support the day was a success from start to finish.

In less than a month Malta will be playing against Hungary away and we have started talks to go there for a day to support the team.Four days later Malta plays at home against Moldova, the team on a par with us and who will surely try and turn around the disappointing draw we managed on their home soil. They will need to win at all costs, so as to avoid bottom place in the standings, and under pressure we believe our players will work harder for a positive result. We believe in our players and strongly believe that we can achieve more positive results in the matches to come, both home and away.
