Disgraceful Bus service

Malta Independent Sunday, 16 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

It is really incredible how the ADT has the guts to claim that it is better to use public transport. Definitely not in Ganu Street, Birkirkara it isn’t.

Bus routes No. 56 and 145 are supposed to pass through Ganu Street for Valletta every 20 minutes or 30 at the most. However, on Friday 7 September people waited at the bus stop in Ganu Street from at least 8.12 to 8.53am before the first bus came. We do not know how long before that the previous bus had passed.

History repeats itself and on Wednesday 12 September at the same bus stop, no buses passed from at least 8.15 till 8.56am. I do not know what time the first bus came because a neighbour gave me a lift.

The next day, Thursday, I made sure I was at the bus stop early to make sure I wouldn’t miss the bus this time round. I was there at 7.55 am and yes, you guessed right. By 8.30 still no bus had passed so I decided to give up and go get my car because I didn’t want to be late again, thanks to our efficient bus service.

It is incredible how disrespectful and irresponsible these people can afford to be. How is it possible to wait for more than 45 minutes in what is considered to be a busy area and at peak time? I did.

And there is no point complaining to the Authority either. On 9 August I lodged another complaint about this shameful service. My e-mail was acknowledged and I was asked to follow the progress on its web page. I did follow it but all I could find was this:

Date 29-08-2007

Action This Case has been investigated. The Council has been notified. Dear Sir, Kindly note that your e-mail has been forwarded to the Public Transport Directorate for necessary action to be taken

I would also like to point out that a copy of the complaint sent to the minister was not even acknowledged.

That’s a lot of satisfaction I am sure! No wonder many sensible people insist on using their own transport and to hell with pollution and all the rest.
