WasteServ Upgrades waste transport services between Gozo and Malta

Malta Independent Tuesday, 18 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

WasteServ has contracted an Italian company to carry domestic waste from Gozo to Malta. It said that “as of yesterday trucks run by an Italian contractor, with great experience in this sector, have started to offer this transport service to aid WasteServ in the transport of domestic waste, using the same measures adopted in the rest of Europe”.

Following the closing of the Qortin Landfill in April, 2004, WasteServ had taken on the task of providing transport services for domestic waste from Gozo to the engineered landfills, Zwejra and Ghallis in Malta. “So far this has been provided by Maltese contractors who all contributed to support WasteServ in implementing a strategy that allowed for the Qortin landfill to be closed down.”

This service was now being improved upon, it added, due to the arrangements made with this Italian contractor “who has vast amounts of experience in this sector in other parts of Europe”.

This contractor, who is certified in ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001 and in OHSAS 18001, “will set new and higher standards for WasteServ in its aim to provide and improve on its waste management services to the public,” WasteServ said.
