During a presentation held recently, the Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS) received a number of books from the European Institute of Education (EIE) as part of its "Knowledge for All" programme This campaign promotes the importance of continuous professional development for professionals in diverse areas as well as employees from different institutions. The 700 persons employed with the Foundation, including a large number of professionals from various fields, will benefit from this donation.
The Foundation for Social Welfare Services operates within the Family and Social Solidarity Ministry and incorporates three main agencies. Agenzija sedqa offers health promotion, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services to persons with drug, alcohol, and/or gambling problems, and to their families. Agenzija Appogg has the main aim of enhancing the lives of people in need, through the provision and availability of professional care and support. Finally, Agenzija Sapport is committed to enhance the quality of life of persons with a disability through innovative personalised support, expertise, and backing.
The donation was presented by Antonello Cappitta, managing director of EIE, to the FSWS chief executive officer Joe Gerada. Present for this event, there was also Olivia Galea Seychell, senior human resources manager of FSWS.
Joe Gerada thanked Mr Cappitta for supporting the Foundation's library in this manner. He said that the library is an important source of reference to all the staff including staff working in the support functions to the operations. He said that a social welfare organisation operates in the same manner as any other organisation in other sectors of the economy and therefore over the years diversified into a number of professions including accounting, marketing, project management and ICT.
Antonello Cappitta said that "the ‘Knowledge for All’ Campaign is part of EIE's strive to spread knowledge within local organisations which assist needs of Maltese citizens. We believe that the Foundation for Welfare Services, is offering a sterling service to Maltese society by transmitting solid values. The study of management has become an important tool in the advancement of every individual and we hope that this is just the start of long term collaboration between EIE and Foundation for Welfare Services, to offer the best education to our youths today, who will be Malta's future leaders of tomorrow."
