The Gozo Creative Theatre Club presents Kickass Plays: four short plays for women by award-winning playwright Jane Shepard. Edgy, funny and sometimes harrowing, Shepard’s one-act plays feature two-women casts, strong roles for actresses, powerful scenes and outstanding monologues. These plays feature roles of exceptional range, in works that explore our tender, brave and sometimes brutal search for meaning. These four plays will be directed by George Mizzi and staged at Uncle Ted’s Tavern, il-Girna, Sannat, Gozo.

In Nine, two women in a life-threatening situation play mind games to keep each other alive. Held in a cell and chained apart, their only currency is words, and balance of power becomes everything when a single word becomes the hanging point between life and death. The actors are Margaret Cassar and Charlene Galea.

In Friends of the Deceased, performed by Josienne Scicluna and Mariella Cassar, an embittered widow waits at her husband’s grave for the appearance of his mistress, a soulful teen.

In Commencing, Kelli can’t wait for the blind date her friends set her up on. It turns out to be one very disappointed lesbian named Arlin. This play will be performed by Dianne A. Galea and Marlene Saliba.

The Last Nickel is theatrical, funny and touching. It’s another long night for Jamie, with an obnoxious sister and a trio of sardonic puppets to keep her awake. The actors are Marsette Xerri and Simone Grech

Commencing and The Last Nickel will be held next Saturday 29 September and Saturday 13 October at 7.30pm. Nine and Friends of the Deceased will take place on Saturday 6 October at 7.30pm.
