An Evasive Prime Minister

Malta Independent Sunday, 23 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

From Ms C. Calleja

While watching last Tuesday’s interview on TVM’s Reporter, I found Dr Lawrence Gonzi inconsistent frustrating to listen to as he was continuously on the defensive, and having no evidence to backup his assertions, thus showing himself as the man he is; the man who has abandoned the middle class of this country.

He came across as an intellectual lightweight who is only able to trot out the same tired old sound bites we are used to. Stripped of the spin, Dr Gonzi showed himself to be weak and ineffectual, running an old government in an old-fashioned way. Having said that, the most irritating was definitely that all-pervading irritating grin on his face! On the whole, all I learnt from this is how evasive the Prime Minister is.

Would it not have been better for him to conduct the interview by himself since he did not seem to answer the questions Saviour Balzan asked him, but rather those he wanted to be asked.
