From Mr N. Grima
Four days after Malta obtained its independence, more than 40 young men entered the seminary to prepare for the priesthood.
The oldest, and the noisiest, of them all was Eddie Gauci. He came from the MUSEUM and both his age then and his
background made it rather
difficult for him to assimilate the upper middle class decorum imprinted on the seminary by Mgr Pantalleresco, the so many rules and regulations, and the times of silence.
Eddie was naturally boisterous, and loud; his baritone voice could be heard from the other side of Marsamxett. Yet he had a heart of gold and was deeply and
sincerely humble..
In the end, he only stayed for four years, and left with the likes of Oliver and Joe Friggieri and Richard Vella Laurenti.
After which he married his neighbour Catherine and started his own family, and carried on teaching and guiding.
Now he is no more, and remembering those fun days at Floriana, here is one who salutes his
memory.
