The Karting Club (Malta) has just been launched and it is now in the process of seeking official recognition from a number of entities.
Founded July 2007, the Karting Club (Malta) originated from the minds of some Maltese Karting enthusiasts, who were feeling that the local Karting set up wasn’t living up to its potential. Their main target was to promote the true meaning of Karting in Malta, that is, speed, fun, competition and most of all sportsmanship.
When the groundworks were set for such a club, official recognition by local sporting authorities was sought for. In September 2007, Karting Club (Malta) became officially recognised by the Kunsill Malti Ghall-Isport. Currently, negotiations are being held with the Malta Olympic Comittee for a similar recognition.
After clearing the first hurdle, the Karting Club (Malta) Committee is now seeking to get full and official recognition from International Sporting Authorities, mainly Federation Internationale De L’Automobile (FIA) and its Karting regulatory body Commission Internationale De Karting (CIK). Also Karting Club (Malta), is in contact with the Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano (CONI) and the Association of British Kart Clubs (ABKC).
As of next month, the Karting Club (Malta), together with Caffe Oasis of Sliema, will be holding the Caffe Oasis Karting Club (Malta) Championship 2007/08. This maiden championship, will cover a range of kart and driver
classes, from kids to seniors. The club possesses the necessary equipment to run the championship in a fully professional way to comply with international standards.
When official recognition from abroad is achieved, the club will be able to hold some international meetings in Malta, bring over a number of enthusiasts who are keen to race in Malta.
The KCM is also sending some of its drivers to Sicily to take part in competitions over there. The club is pleased to report that the Maltese dominate the Sicilian events.
