Workers Ignored – MLP

Malta Independent Tuesday, 25 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Marie Louise Coleiro, Labour Party spokesperson for social solidarity, said the government’s idea of adult training centres reform was one which cut costs at the expense of workers and those who were more vulnerable.

Ms Coleiro said that those with academic qualifications were being employed over those with a longer work experience in the sector. On the other hand inconsistencies were occurring where the new recruits were concerned, as different types of contracts and work conditions were being assigned to those having the same job description.

She added that many of these workers were feeling disillusioned and a common feeling of inertia among these workers was surfacing as after years of dedication they were not only being ignored but were being denied their dignity.
