A full two-day mountain biking, team event will be held on 17 and 18 November. This event will be held in aid of ‘The Park Of Friendship’.
The event will take place in the following way:
On Saturday at 8.30am each team, consisting of four members, will be given an envelope in which they will find, among other things, a map on which they will be required to plot a route. On completion of the plot the team will depart from ‘The park of Friendship’. With the aid of the map, the team will be obliged to navigate through a specific route, answer questions and collect ‘treasures’ along the way. Everyone has to start and finish as a team.
At the designated venue the teams will be greeted with tea and biscuits and given some time to chill out.
Later in the afternoon, there will be a team event also known as a ‘Gymkhana’ … very entertaining for the onlookers but remember, who laughs last, laughs loudest! Dinner and a traditional campfire to brighten up the night will follow.
On Sunday also at 8.30am, after breakfast, every team will be handed another envelope, this time with a road book, which will take the team back to ‘The Park Of Friendship’. Once again, the team must navigate through a specific route, answer questions and collect ‘treasures’ along the way and as the day before, start as a team and finish as a team.
Needless to say, a first aid and backup team will be at hand to recover the unfortunate victims.
Requirements
Firstly it is important to note that participants must be 16 years and over. Those under the age of 16 will have to be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian and form part of the same team.
Everyone will be required to bring a sleeping bag and ground mat. Those taking part need not carry these along the way with them, as they will be able to load them up in one of the backup vehicles. On the other hand everyone will be obliged to wear a cycling helmet, carry the standard bike bottle and have a pump and spare inner tube. Each team is also obliged to have a mobile phone to be used for emergency communication with the organisers.
In order to take part every individual will first have to fill out the official form. Attached to this form is a sponsor sheet. Each participant is obliged to collect a minimum amount of sponsorship money, as for the maximum amount … well more money equals more points!!!
Team requirements
Each team will be made up of four persons. No team, no worries … we’ll team anyone up with a group. As indicated in the entry form, each team member will be named and a team name will be chosen.
A pre-event meeting will be held on Monday 12t November at 7.45pm at ‘The Park of Friendship’. At least one team member is obliged to attend this meeting. During this meeting there will be a briefing of the event and a detailed description of how to plot the route on the map.
