When does a parent stop being responsible for the actions of her son or daughter whether they are fruitful or whether they are criminal? Judging by the way people in high places resign over contemptible acts performed by their children – never.
Not when they are 18, not when they are in their 20s and not when they are in their 30s.
But is this really fair? Are parents supposed to be accountable for the “directions” their children take all their lives?
It is criminal the way people in certain positions feel the need to resign over something they were not responsible for.
May I enquire whether those in these positions sign a contract stating that if their children turn out to be delinquents, they will have to resign from their job?
Many of the youths of today, I am sorry to say, are irresponsible, immature and do not give two hoots over their mother/father’s status.
Are the parents of these youths expected to be
overcome with anxiety because they have to be accountable for children’s actions?
I feel that as human adult individuals we are all responsible for our own actions and therefore we should all be exonerated from the guilt of others, including our sons or daughters.
Parents of shallow, supercilious kids should not be made to pay the price for their barbaric behaviour. They are not their aide-de-camps.
I would not resign for those I love.
