Opposition Leader Alfred Sant yesterday testified in court in a libel suit filed by Water Services Corporation chairman Michael Falzon over statements he made in a 2005 speech alleging corruption within the said corporation.
Speaking in November 2005, Dr Sant was quoted as having said that Michael Falzon should not be threatening workers but instead, should be giving them more work to do.
He had also made an accusation of corruption and had mentioned Mr Falzon in the same vein.
However, in court yesterday, Dr Sant made it clear that he was only referring to Mr Falzon as the chairman of the time of the corporation. Dr Sant’s allegation were made in connection with the pre-1996 period, at which time Mr Falzon was not involved with the WSC. “I was referring to him as being the chairman, in 2005, who needed to allocate more projects to WSC employees,” said Dr Sant.
The case continues. Dr Pawlu Lia appeared for Dr Sant while Dr William Cuschieri appeared for the Mr Falzon.
