A 29-year-old man from Pietà is in critical condition after he was rushed to hospital suffering from serious burns after the boat he was in caught fire early yesterday morning.
Early yesterday morning at around 3.45am, mobile squad police on duty in St Paul’s Bay saw a man running for help as his clothes were on fire, while a boat in the same area was ablaze too.
Members of the Civil Protection Department (CPD) were called on site and put out the fire. An ambulance took the man first to the Birkirkara polyclinic where he was referred to St Luke’s hospital, where he was certified to be in critical condition.
Duty Magistrate Silvio Meli was informed with the case and hired several experts to assist him in the inquiry.
Another man is helping the police in their investigations.
