Urban Development and Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett yesterday visited Triq tas-Sejba in Mqabba, where the government has undertaken a Lm32,000/EUR74,540 project, which is nearing completion.

Minister Jesmond Mugliett said that over the past legislature, the Nationalist government has truly shown the importance of a government that sees to the needs of the country’s transport network infrastructure.

The government drew up a residential roads programme, which is essentially a plan for the resurfacing of 450 residential roads by means of a Lm9 million/EUR21 million investment.

Minister Mugliett said the government also resurfaced a number of arterial roads thanks to EU funding, as well as funding from the Italian government.

The minister said that although Triq tas-Sejba was not included in the 2006-2008 residential roads programme, it was thought that this road required particular attention since it is considered as an important link between several localities in the southeastern part of the island.

The road was widened, the foundations strengthened and work on the sewage system was also carried out before a new layer of tarmac was laid.

Meanwhile, in the coming weeks the government would have completed work on half the residential roads that it planned to resurface in Mqabba, the minister concluded.
