I am writing with reference to the rejection of an ANZAC memorial in Malta by the Malta Environmental Planning Authority.

I think the Mepa should re-think its decision on this matter for historical reasons, and to keep the Maltese younger generation informed of their history.

Australia, New Zealand and Malta have a history that dates back to WW1 at Gallipoli and there are about 267 veterans buried in Malta’s war memorial cemeteries.

I visited Malta last year and was there for the ANZAC Day service with three other veterans and I was proud of my Maltese heritage and of being there to celebrate ANZAC Day with old and new friends in a very moving ceremony which was one of the greatest services I have attended in my lifetime.

I encourage the people of Malta to write to the Mepa and urge them to retract their decision on this matter urgently.

History cannot be replaced and should be remembered.
