Your article entitled “Steep increase in defaulters noticed”, which appeared on the front page of last Sunday’s The Malta Independent, made interesting reading, but was marred by the misuse of the word “owning” that must have confused many of your readers.

Reference was made to legal action against “people owning (sic) money” and in the following paragraph to “companies that are owned (sic) money”.

Surely, the journalist in question must have meant “owing money” and “owed money”!
