The Malta National Team won the International Futsal tournament staged at the AS Hibernians Sports Pavilion at Corradino thanks to a two-all draw with Metaservice Ficarazzi in their final commitment on Sunday afternoon.

Needing only a draw to win the tournament on goal difference, Michael Stritz’s side found it hard to penetrate the Sicilians’ rearguard in a goalless first half.

Things got worse when Roberto Lazzaro put Ficarazzi in front soon after the resumption.

A two-goal burst within a couple of minutes from Tyron Borg put the Maltese ahead and well in command of the game.

Lazzaro’s second goal three minutes from time was not enough to deny the honours for the enthusiastic Maltese side.

MFA Vice-President and Chairman of the Futsal Committee, Ludovico Micallef, presented the coveted trophy to Malta’s skipper Nicky Bilocca.

Ficarazzi finished second, Jeepers were third and Misterbiano fourth.
