The Maltese Olympic Committee will take part in an annual Mediterranean friendly tournament between Sicily and Malta between 15 and 18 November in Palermo, Sicily.
During meetings held in Malta earlier this year, between the Maltese Olympic Committee represented by the president, Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco and the secretary general, Joseph Cassar and the Olympic Committee of Sicily represented by Massimo Costa and Aldo di Pietro, it was agreed that for this year, a number of individual sports which do not often take part in international tournaments as a national contingent would be included.
In order to ascertain continuity in the years to come, it has also been agreed to restrict the number of athletes repr senting these sports and each contingent will have a maximum of 55 athletes and officials.
The sports disciplines on the programme for this year’s event will be Badminton, Dance Sport, Fencing, Golf, Karate, Pool, Snooker, Table Football Weightlifting, and possibly triathlon.
Initially Libya and Tunisia were also invited, but this year these two Olympic Committees will not be able to attend due to their participation in other African Games.
Malta has already agreed to host these Games in 2008.
