Sliema Wanderers have the chance to recover some lost pride after their unexpected defeat at the hands of modest Mqabba when they take on a depleted Valletta side this evening at the Ta’ Qali national Stadium (kick-off 7.30pm).

It seems to be another challenge for the Wanderers who have rarely, so far, managed to produce their best form, despite the good number of formidable elements within their ranks.

Against Valletta today, the Wanderers will be expected to go all out to win the three points in the knowledge that they will be favoured by the fact that Valletta will have three of their key midfielders missing.

Stefan Giglio and captain Gilbert Agius are ruled out through long-term injuries while Claude Mattocks is suspended.

The Blues have striker Ivan Woods in doubt, but coach Ray ‘Zazu’ Farrugia is keeping his fingers crossed that the Malta striker will be declared fit to play in this important match.

In the standings, Sliema are third on 10 points, three behind leaders Floriana, while Valletta are sixth on eight points.
