PM ‘listening To AD’

Malta Independent Friday, 5 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Alternattiva Demokratika Zghazagh – Green Youth noted that the government has spoken of its intention to, at least partially, implement AD’s policy for Gozo.

Robert Callus, ADZ spokesperson said that “the fact that the prime minister mentions an unspecified plan for Gozo to be powered completely by alternative sources of energy is a tentative step in the right direction. In fact we are glad that the government has taken heed of the numerous campaigns that the Greens have organised in the past years. Alternattiva Demokratika was the only party which came up with an innovative and forward looking solution by proposing that Gozo is turned into an ecological island”.

As part of the pre-budget talks Alternattiva Demokratika has proposed the establishment of a Lm2 million venture fund for the development of Gozo as an eco-island. This proposal was endorsed by the Italian Environmental Minister and the president of the Italian Green Party, Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio.

It had to be noted though, ADZ said, that it was shameful that economic and environmental issues have been neglected in Gozo by the government for so long. It was only now, on the eve of a general election, that the deterioration of Gozo is being addressed, albeit only rhetorically.
