Sedqa agency yesterday launched two new interactive and educational CDs, T.F.A.L.2 and CROSSROADS, at a press conference yesterday.

T.F.A.L.2 (Tfal favur l-Ambjent) CD is a programme for year 2 students, following last year’s edition for year 1 students.

This CD has been designed to enable parents to use it with their children at home. Topics dealt with include family and quality time, the importance of acknowledging good qualities, sense of belonging within the family, and inclusion, among others.

The CD targeting educators offers a number of topics and lesson plans for teachers to integrate within the set curriculum. CROSSROADS has been designed for teachers of Maltese to use in secondary school classrooms.

Education Minister Louis Galea said it was vital for educators to use new interactive learning tools to communicate with today’s students and parents too must be involved in their children’s education and be well aware of the technology and communication tools that today’s generations use.

Dr Galea said the government had changed a number of books and invested heavily in the provision of IT and other resources.

Secondary school teachers would also be given laptop computers like their primary counterparts to continue to strengthen the IT infrastructure as well as enforce the essence of life-skills as part of a holistic education, Dr Galea said.

Family and Social Solidarity Minister Dolores Cristina said children’s voices must be heard as they were not only representatives of the future, but also represented the present.

Joe Gerada, chief executive officer at the Foundation for Social Welfare Services, said sedqa was increasingly involving parents in conveying healthy messages to their children and stressed the importance of parents and teachers working together.
