The MADC kicks off the theatre season with a hilarious, yet very touching, play boasting a fantastic all-female cast at the Manoel Theatre.
Steel Magnolias stars mega-talented actresses Polly March, Charlotte Grech, Pia Zammit, Isabel Warrington, Katherine Brown and Emily Jones. It is a comedy-drama set in Louisana about the bond forged between a group of Southern women. The play, by Robert Harling, first debuted off-Broadway in 1987 and was made into a film starring Dolly Parton, Shirley Maclaine and Julia Roberts in 1989.
The action centres around Truvy’s hairdressing salon and beauty parlour. Truvy’s new assistant is Annelle who, rather bizarrely, is not sure if she is married or not. The women who visit the salon include M’Lynn, the local social worker will do anything for her daughter Shelby (whose wardrobe consists only of the colour pink), eccentric millionaire Clairee and Ouiser who loves her dog Rhett more than any human.
In the play these women experience birth, life and death, all in the arms and company of each other.
Steel Magnolias, directed by Michael Zammit Maempel, will be held at the Manoel Theatre between 12 - 14 October. Booking is open from the Booking Office on tel. 2124-6389, email – [email protected] or on-line at: www.teatrumanoel.com.mt. More information from website: www.madc.biz.
