Malta won a gold medal, a silver medal and two bronze medals yesterday following the bronze medal won the day before during the World Special Olympics Summer Games in Shanghai.
Special Olympics Malta, with Vodafone Malta Foundation as its official partner, is excelling in swimming during the Games.
Yesterday, Chris Gregory won the gold medal in the 50 metre freestyle despite the strong competition he had to face. Jonathon Borg and Alexia Wetz each won the bronze medal in the 50 metre freestyle.
On Thursday, Charmaine Mifsud won a silver medal in the 100 metres women's swimming medley with a time of 2:28.14, a better time than that registered in the preliminaries.
Today will see the participation of Mark Zammit Cutajar, Sylvana Cassar and Charmaine Mifsud.
The bowling team composed from Bjorn Tabone, Philip Gruppetta, Angele Azzopardi and Maria Spiteri classified in second place, managing to surpass the People’s Republic of China with Hong Kong placing first. In the first game, Malta had 426, Hong Kong 467 and China 314. In the second game, the Maltese gained 417 whilst Hong Kong gained 462. Placing in the second place was a huge success for the Maltese team.
The Maltese were mentioned in newspapers and a newspaper also carried a photo of the Maltese ambassador for the People’s Republic of China together with the Maltese competitors.
