Apart from the document distributed on Friday at the opening of the Nationalist Party’s general council, another document will be published today, PN secretary general Joe Saliba told this newspaper in an interview.

The document published on Friday outlined the PN’s “Six Visions” for Malta apart from the one regarding Gozo.

The one being distributed today takes a look at what the party in government has done. It is amazing, looking back, how much has been done, Mr Saliba said.

This general council, the second one of the year, is always the political one (as against the other, which is administrative). The fact it will be the last before the general election gives it additional importance.

To arrive at the basic document issued on Friday, Mr Saliba said, the party met a number of key sectors, such as the MHRA, women and youth organisations. The document is the result of these consultations.

The general council continued yesterday with workshops on each of the six visions and a separate workshop in Gozo.

Another novelty is that this time it was the Prime Minister himself who opened the council, as the secretary general usually does this. The Prime Minister will also conclude the general council, which resumes this morning at the Eden Arena.

The party’s electoral manifesto will thus be built around the Six Visions document plus the further input of the workshops and the speeches made in the council sessions.

This is also the general council before the next Budget and the Prime Minister, also as Minister for Finance, will be listening closely to the speeches being made in the crucial days when the real decisions will be taken.
