Stole Camera to eat

Malta Independent Sunday, 7 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Serb Jankovic Dragoje, 42, without a passport, was charged yesterday with having stolen a digital camera from GO’s flagship store in Psaila Street.

The accused told Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima that he sold the camera for Lm30, well below its real price, so that he could have money to eat.

The Serb was filmed by CCTV in the outlet and was caught near Manoel Island.

He was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment suspended for three years, but the Immigration Police have been told to investigate how he came to be in Malta.

Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted while Dr Jose Herrera appeared for Mr Dragoje.
