After reading Daphne Caruana Galizia’s article “Down the YouTube” (TMIS, 30 September), I still cannot fathom the real motivation behind such a dastardly and venomous poor excuse of an article.

Demonising and character assassination in politics has always proved counter productive. The 1996 election beefed up this theory. Maybe, just maybe, contributors like Daphne and her ilk put pen to paper merely as a mission, to please the venal element in the PN’s unprofessional so-called strategy group.

Daphne Caruana Galizia is the same person who in the past used to call Labour supporters “hamalli Mintoffjani” and derided Mintoff’s bad taste in clothes with his big belt and leather jacket. Karmenu Mifsud-Bonnici was “ZERO” and “tal Muzew” and Fenech Adami, until she acquired his favours, was “l-Avukat tar-rahal”.

If Norman Lowell, who is synonymous with downright cruel adjectives, got close to mention the same attributes in his attrition campaign against the Jews and the Africans, Maltese justice would put him behind bars and throw away the key.

This woman needs to be pitied as she may have a problem with her perception of her own personality and needs professional help and prayers. She tries to project herself as a world class professional but always falls flat on her face and comes across looking more like a gutter journalist.

The real culprits however, are the engineers of the character assassination campaign against Alfred Sant, the man who weakened their very foundations and they utterly detest him for it. They love to attack their opponent singer, never his song. This is no new strategy for the PN, just a continuation of their long running sagas against Lord Gerald Strickland, Sir Paul Boffa, Dom. Mintoff and Dr Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici.

Let us not forget Joe Saliba, the PN’s strategy guru’s and his recent declaration that this election will be a “do or die”. The sky is the limit, or more appropriately, the gutter is their limit.

I doubt whether this contribution will see the light of day, but on the other hand it may because The Malta Independent on Sunday has no difficulty in allowing us a level playing ground.
