That “refined” lady from Bidnija has done it again. She has succeeded in reaching new depths when spewing vitriol at the Labour leader. Her latest contribution will long be remembered as the climax of her hateful crusade against Dr Alfred Sant.

I was not at all surprised since that episode, which had unashamedly delved in Dr Sant’s private life, specifically his annulled marriage, and had created a furore at the time, as is happening today among decent people of different political views.

If anything is “ stupid” this is certainly not Dr Sant’s wig but her pathetic arguments. For example: how did she come to the conclusion that Dr Sant wears a wig because he is shy to appear bald? Could it not be some other justified reason? And anyway, what’s the big deal whether Dr Sant wears a wig or not, just as there are so many prominent politicians and other personalities who dye their hair to hide their white hair?

Daphne wrote: “Billions of men the world over are bald. That’s normal. What isn’t normal, on the other hand, is the urge to wear a wig to pretend that you’re not.” May I add: there are billions of men the world over whose hair goes white with age. This is quite normal too, but there are millions of men who dye their hair brown or black to give the false impression that their hair had not yet turned white or grey! Silvio Berlusconi, an ex-prime minister, Pippo Baudo and Mike Buongiorno come quickly to mind. Isn’t that somewhat similar to wearing a wig since their dyed hair gives a false impression?

I am amazed, that Daphne seems more concerned whether a prime minister wears a wig or not than to having a prime minister who shuts both eyes and ears to the avalanche of abuses, crass incompetence, serious indications of corruption and unbridled spending of many millions of liri of public funds, which daily erupt around him.

I would rather have a prime minister who is 100 per cent honest and who practises zero-tolerance where corruption, abuses of whatever nature and sheer incompetence in the management of taxpayers’ money is concerned, even if that prime minister wears a wig. What is important is not the wig on the prime minister’s head but the grey matter inside it!

Incidentally, has Daphne downloaded Lou Bondi’s latest programme in which Dr Sant and Dr Gonzi were the protagonists? I suppose Daphne and her ilk this time were dumb struck by Dr Gonzi’s poor performance. But Dr Gonzi doesn’t wear a wig so all is OK. He just wears a false smile.
