Man Charged with injuring police sergeant

A 24-year-old man was yesterday charged with slightly injuring a police sergeant and resisting the police early on Sunday morning in Paceville.

Before magistrate Silvio Meli, James Aquilina, from Siggiewi, pleaded guilty to assaulting the sergeant and a constable, slightly injuring the officer, resisting and threatening the police, damaging a police uniform and breaching the peace.

The magistrate jailed him for six months suspended for two years.

Police Inspectors Carlo Ellul and Carmel Abdilla prosecuted while Dr Anglu Farrugia acted as defence counsel.
