The 72nd national finals 2007, kindly sponsored by Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, is currently underway at the Premises of the Malta Chess Federation in St. Vincent Str, Sliema.

Peter Sammut Briffa and Duncan Vella are leading the field with two wins each out of the same number of games.

Sammut Briffa defeated old time rival Harry Camilleri in round one and then overcame current title holder Colin Pace in round two with the white pieces whereas Vella overcame Pace’s black pieces in round one and defeated Robert Zerafa in round two. Patrick Zerafa is third half a point behind the leaders.

Yesterday, Zerafa Patrick played Sammut Briffa Peter; Vella Duncan played against Camilleri Henry and Pace Colin faced Zerafa Robert.
