Esther Azzopardi (nee Farrugia) has been appointed as referee in two Group 1 matches of the first European Women's Under 17 Championship 2008 to be held in Switzerland between 11 and 16 October.

This is the first appointment for Ms Azzopardi since she was officially included on the FIFA list of Women Referees, the first Maltese female referee on the FIFA list.

Esther Azzopardi will be controlling two matches, namely Switzerland-Cyprus and Cyprus-Lithuania. The other team in this group is Wales.

Paul Apap has been appointed as assistant referee for this tournament.
