Positive Messages

Malta Independent Wednesday, 10 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The latest speeches by the different party leaders have only helped to sustain my belief that, indeed, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is the kind of leader that our country needs. Both leaders speak mostly of two things.

Dr Gonzi likes to mention the positive results that have been achieved by his administration, and lays out his vision for the future. It is the kind of speech that makes you want to work and strive harder.

Opposition leader Alfred Sant tells us that nothing has been achieved, it’s always doom and gloom. And when it comes to vision, it is master plans, strategic plans, reports to be drawn up and discussions to be held. Nothing new.

Just think about pensions: what was Dr Sant’s opinion on pension reform? It is not an issue for the time being. We will tackle it in the future.

So much for putting our minds at rest.
