The MLP And education

Malta Independent Thursday, 11 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

It is extremely frustrating for a former student like me to listen to Labour Party officials bragging about the fact that Maltese students have not achieved the educational levels that their European peers have.

How cheeky!

How can we forget that just 10 years ago they had promised us students that they would improve the stipend system and not only this failed to happen but they forced students to go and ask for loans?

Should a change of government not have happened a few months later, this would have discouraged hundreds of students, coming from difficult backgrounds, to pursue their studies.

Thanks to the massive investment by the present government in education, many students, colleagues of mine, have made it to good jobs, despite a complete lack of financial resources back home. It is only thanks to the efforts of this government that we can compete for the jobs that are being offered today.
